Eligibility

Eligibility for Funding from The Childhood Trust

To apply for funding all eligibility criteria set out below must be met.

  1. Be a UK-registered charity with a Charity Commission number. Charities with tax-exempt status will not be eligible. (Find out more about tax-exempt status).
  2. Have an annual income of at least £25,000 (as per last filed accounts with the Charity Commission), and no more than £10m in income from donations and legacies.  
  3. Have at least one year of filed annual accounts on the Charity Commission website. 
  4. Can demonstrate sound financial management and compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements. 
  5. Have a well-structured board or management committee, with a minimum of three members. The majority of members must be independent and unrelated, ensuring objective decision-making and effective governance.  
  6. Have solid safeguarding processes and procedures, with an up-to-date policy in place. 
  7. Be applying to The Childhood trust for a match-funding amount that is less than 10% of their last annual income. 
  8. Be requesting funding for projects for children and young people (0-18 year olds).  
  9. Be requesting funding for projects for children and young people who live in London. 
  10. Be requesting funding for projects for children and young people experiencing poverty and that this can be demonstrated by poverty measures, for example IDACI, free school meals, pupil premium, low household income.  
  11. Be able to demonstrate that proposed projects can provide outcomes against one of our four impact goals: 
    • Children are Healthy: Projects which focus on improving the physical health of children, addressing food insecurity or enabling physical activity programmes.  
    • Children are Resilient: Projects that promote, restore, and protect children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing.  
    • Children are Safe: Projects that improve children’s quality of life and sense of belonging by investing in programmes that promote community cohesion and improving relationships.  
    • Children are Confident: Projects involving employment, training, and education-based services; services that enhance life and work-readiness by raising confidence and a passion for learning.  
  • Be seeking to raise up to £100,000 in public donations, to match funded by The Childhood Trust and the charity’s own pledge funders, with a total campaign target of up to £200,000. 
  • Have a committed pledge from a donor, for 25% of the campaign total. 
  • Be seeking to raise at least £2000 and up to £5,000 in public donations, to be match funded by The Childhood Trust, with a total campaign target of between £4,000 and £10,000. 
  • Not have been funded by The Childhood Trust within the last 5 years, or at all. 
  • Have a maximum annual income of £500,000 (as per last filed accounts with the Charity Commission). 
  1. Applications from individuals, including for hardship grants 
  2. Funding for statutory provision, including for educational bursaries 
  3. Projects that are primarily focused on advancing political ideologies 
  4. Projects that are primarily focused on promoting religious beliefs, conducting worship activities, or converting religions are not eligible for funding. Projects led by faith-based organisations that address needs of children and young people in a non-religious and inclusive manner will be considered 
  5. The repayment of loans or the payment of debts 
  6. Capital costs that are not used to deliver project outcomes and impact 
  7. Retrospective funding for activity delivered prior to the campaign end date 
  8. Accommodation for homeless children or families 
  9. Applications from any government related bodies 
  10. General awareness-raising, advocacy, or research (unless it is carried out in conjunction with service delivery/intervention which falls under one of The Childhood Trust’s four impact areas – Children are Healthy, Children are Safe, Children are Resilient, and Children are Confident) 
  11. Trips abroad 
  12. Childcare where there is no evidence of additional need
