Connect a London Family or Community to Support
We work closely with professional partners to identify families living in poverty or on a low income and community spaces that have been systemically overlooked.
How it works:

If you have any questions, our team is here to help. Get in touch.
You can call or email us and we will be happy to talk you through the steps to make a referral 07427 524790.
Below, you will find more information on eligibility and referral FAQs.
Eligibility & Criteria
To submit a referral, we ask that all referral partners consent to support the family through this process. This includes attending a site visit with a member of our team to meet the family and ensuring we can collect monitoring and evaluation information before and after the project is completed.
Please read our Referral FAQs below before submitting a referral form.
Our Transforming Spaces programme only redecorates children’s bedrooms and children’s spaces in youth/community centres and charities. The programme does not redecorate sitting rooms, kitchens, or other living spaces.
We are currently only taking referrals for bedroom projects.
Families experiencing poverty can be referred by professionals who can confirm they meet the criteria listed below.
Charities or community centres with youth programmes are eligible for community projects.
Families must:
- Be referred by a professional who has a good understanding of their need for the service based on The Childhood Trust’s definition of poverty
- Not own their own property
- Not have the resources necessary to complete the transformation themselves
Bedrooms must:
- must be structurally sound and not have any signs of mould to ensure the transformation is sustainable
- require decoration (they should not have been recently painted)
- need (due to not having or disrepair):
-
- a individual bed per child
-
- storage such as a wardrobe or chest of drawers
-
- a place to study (desk)
If the only need is for furniture, please review this document for further information about furniture provision charities.
We may also be able to provide specialised furniture or room accessories to support children with additional needs.
Referrals can be made by registered charities (including religious groups, such as churches), schools and local authorities.
If you’re an individual looking to refer yourself to the programme, please get in touch with a local charity that would be willing to refer you and act as your referral partner through the process.
All referrals for the programme are made through online forms, which can be accessed on the Transforming Spaces web page. Please ensure that every question on the referral form is answered and no questions are left blank.
If you have a question about a referral, please contact programmesupport@childhoodtrust.org.uk
Interested in making a referral to the Transforming Spaces programme?
- Fill out an online referral form, which can be accessed through the Transforming Spaces web page. A member of the team will contact you once your form has been received and reviewed.
- If the property seems suitable for the programme, we may ask that you send additional photos and videos of the spaces referred for redecoration.
- Following this, we will contact you to organise a site visit at the property.
- After the site visit, we will advise you if the property passes health and safety and will be accepted into the programme’s caseload.
- If the property is accepted, we will discuss possible dates and schedule the project. Please keep in mind that there is typically a waiting list for projects.

Because sometimes, transforming a space doesn’t just change a room. It changes how a child sees themselves.
