The London Child Poverty Summit

Every year as part of London Challenge Poverty week, The Childhood Trust together with the London Child Poverty Alliance hosts the London Child Poverty Summit.  A one-day event featuring presentations, panels, and debate from a wide range of experts on child poverty, including government representatives, educators, youth workers, and young people impacted by poverty.

The London Child Poverty Summit puts children and their needs at the heart of the debate. An opportunity to share and discuss experiences of child poverty, as well as expertise and solutions, alongside project workers, third sector leaders, and other stakeholders.

The annual summit provides a forum for constructive dialogue around the causes, consequences, and solutions for children living in poverty in London.

Our 2024 London Child Poverty Summit featured:

  • Opening speech from Kenny Imafidon, author of That Peckham Boy, and entrepreneur, journalist, and social commentator.
  • City of Contasts: panel discussion and Q&A, based on the question “Is London a city for children and young people?” Participation from experts working in a variety of charities and academia.
  • Film from Homestart Camden and Islington, showing the challenges that families are experiencing at the intersection of poverty and disability.
  • The Power of Place: Workshop with The Magpie Project and The Childhood Trust’s Transforming Spaces programme, looking at the importance of children feeling safe and secure in their bedroom.
  • Bright Futures: The Young Visionaries Panel: Panel discussion and Q&A from four young people from Youth Parliament and councils in London, on whether the physical spaces, social interactions, or digital environments impact children and young people’s mental health the most.
