Half of Londoners Underestimate Child Poverty—Here’s How We’re Taking Action and How You Can Help!

For this year’s London Challenge Poverty Week, we commissioned a survey with Censuswide, asking 1,650 Londoners across all 33 boroughs about their views on child poverty and whether London is a place where children and young people can thrive.

The survey revealed a startling reality: nearly half of Londoners (45%) are unaware of the full extent of child poverty in the city in 2024.

That’s why your support and engagement during Challenge Poverty Week is crucial.

Until Friday, 18th October, our Poverty in Every Postcode campaign will demonstrate the extent and impact of child poverty in London. We will amplify the voices of those effected by poverty through a new film release, showcase the important work of our charity partners, and share insights from our London Child Poverty Summit. Now that you know what to expect, here's how you can get involved:

01

Donate

Your donation strengthens our London Charity Network, providing vital resources like food, clothing, and educational support to the 700,000 children living in poverty across the city. While 44% of Londoners view charities as leaders in addressing child poverty, only 1 in 10 (12%) believe that responsibility lies with them. That’s why your support during Challenge Poverty Week is crucial. Every donation enables our partners can deliver essential services to children in London, ensuring they have happy, healthy, and safe childhoods.

02

Volunteer

If you work for a corporate organisation, consider giving your time through our Decorate a Child's Life programme, transforming children's bedrooms in the most deprived areas of London. With just a paintbrush, a willingness to help, and a positive spirit, you can directly transform a child’s life in a single day.

02

Spread the word

Help amplify our campaign by sharing it on social media. This week, we’ll be spotlighting powerful insights from our London Child Poverty Summit, including new statistics, the release of an exclusive film, and inspirational talks from our expert panellists with lived experience of child poverty in London.

Get involved by following us @childhoodtrust across all platforms, and don’t forget to turn on notifications so you don’t miss a thing! Check out our London Challenge Poverty Week 2024: TCT Research Insights to learn more and be sure to tag us or use the hashtags #PovertyInEveryPostcode, #LDNChallengePovertyWeek, and #povertyfreelondon when you get involved this week!

Your participation tin London Challenge Poverty Week - whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word - plays a crucial role in breaking the cycle of poverty for the 700,000 children living in poverty in London.

Thank you for your continuous support. Together, we can make sure every child in London has a happy, healthy, and safe childhood!
