Josephine McCartney to Lead Us into the Next Chapter

We are delighted to announce that Josephine McCartney will become Chief Executive at The Childhood Trust, starting on February 10th, 2025.

Josephine brings over 23 years of experience in the charitable sector, and a deep passion for helping children and young people. She joins The Childhood Trust from her current role as Chief Executive of Kent Community Foundation, and her earlier career includes senior leaderships roles at Imperial College Healthcare Charity in London, and the Royal National Institute for Blind People.

Josephine is a strong advocate for voluntary organisations in her local area, where she chairs the Kent Children & Young People’s Steering Group, as well as sitting on other Kent County steering groups and boards.

Josephine’s commitment to improving the lives of young people has shown throughout her career, and we are excited to see the positive impact she will have at The Childhood Trust.

Josephine McCartney commented: “I am thrilled to be joining this wonderful charity doing so much good work addressing unimaginable levels of poverty that children and families are facing in London today.  I am excited to work with our charity partners to see how much more we can achieve together.  Children living in poverty across the capital is increasing, and I believe there is much more we can do in collaboration with other funders in London to address this. I can’t wait to get started.”

Grant Gordon, Chair and Founder of The Childhood Trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome Josephine as the new leader of The Childhood Trust. Her track record and dedication makes her an exceptional choice for this role. Josephine’s passion for helping children and young people aligns with our mission to ensure that every child in London has a happy, healthy, and safe future that prepares them for life. Her leadership will be invaluable as we tackle the challenges facing disadvantaged children to break the cycle of poverty”.
